CG workshop

What are Community Groups?

Community Groups (or CGs) are FreeChurch's take on "small groups". They are comprised of people who live close together and who meet regularly to share in meals, to reflect on Scripture, and to serve their neighbourhoods. Community Groups offer a space to actively engage in relationships with each other and with the places we live in while fostering the values of hospitality, formation, and local mission. We currently have community groups functioning in Downtown, the Annex, the West End, and the East End.

How do Sundays differ from CGs?

While “church” is a building we go to on a Sunday, Church also defines the actual body of people that make up the congregation. FreeChurch Toronto invites you to engage in a Community Group to express what it means to be in and of the Church beyond a carved-out weekend hour.

We also acknowledge that we live in a city where it is easy to become isolated and a society that values independence. Community Groups are a place to feel supported and encouraged by one another as we seek to deepen our faith and our understanding about what it means to be Christ-followers.

Which CG do I join?

There are 4 active Community Groups that are divided by our neighbourhoods:

West End
Annex/Midtown
Downtown
East End

We encourage you to engage with a community group that is within your neighbourhood, but all groups are open to join. Please reach out to Steve (steve@freechurch.ca), and he will connect you with the leaders for your area.

Kids Kingdom

Kids2

Welcome to Kids Kingdom, our children’s ministry at FreeChurch. Kids Kingdom is available each Sunday at our weekly gatherings, and is offered for children 18months up to 11 years of age. For more of that Parents/Guardians are to expect from a Sunday morning you can read our “Welcome Sheet”, which is provided upon first visit.

What the kids can expect: A safe, welcoming, and fun space to build community and learn about God, themselves, and each other. We're excited to see kids find belonging in the Kingdom as God moves in their lives. Kids Kingdom programming is overseen by our children’s ministry leads called “Kids Kingdom Captains”. Our curriculum is screened and provided by our Children, Youth, and Family Pastor.

The well-being of your children is our top priority. That’s why FreeChurch has a strict Classroom Code of Conduct Guidelines and Policies that follow the Plan to Protect abuse prevention guidelines.

If you think that you will be regularly attending FreeChurch, we ask that you fill out the “Authorization and Medical Consent Form”, and send the completed form to kids@freechurch.ca to officially register your kids into programming. Hard copy prints are provided on site.

FreeYouth

For Middle and Highschoolers aged 12-17, we offer thrice monthly “FreeYouth” Sunday programming. Our screened and trained Youth Leaders called “Head Chefs and Sous Chefs”, do prep work alongside the Children, Youth, and Family Pastor to see what the Spirit of Christ is cookin’ up. It’ll be fire. More information TBA.

Notes on Kids Kingdom

  • Please take your child to the washroom before church begins.
  • Please bring a small water bottle with your child’s name labeled on it each week.
  • After the final song of worship, children will be invited to the front for a prayer before Kids Kingdom.
  • If your child is 6 years old or younger, please accompany them to the Kids Kingdom room and sign them in. Please ensure you leave your cellphone number on the sign in form.
  • We will text you if we need to reach you during service, so please have your phone on vibrate or visible.
  • After the service, please come back to the Kids Kingdom room to pick up your child.
  • If your child chooses to not attend Kids Kingdom, they are more than welcome to stay in the service.

Prayer Ministry

The Intercessory Prayer Team is made up of individuals who commit to praying for our community each week. With a strong belief in the power of prayer and the need to lift each other up to God, we compile a weekly list of prayer requests that we pray over independently and, occasionally, as a group. We pray for individuals, our communities, our church, the city and the world.

Whether you a member of FreeChurch or a first-time visitor, we welcome and encourage prayer requests from anyone in our community. Requests are handled with discretion and shared only among the prayer team, elders and pastor. Requests can be passed along to the Intercessory Prayer Team via email or in person by placing a note in the offering box or prayer box on Sunday.

We are always accepting new prayer member to our team.
