Leadership

Jon2

Jon Osmond

Senior Pastor

Jon and his wife Claudia along with their three children have lived in the Annex neighbourhood (Seaton Village) since 2010. Joining the leadership team at FreeChurch in 2013 as Planting Pastor, Jon was instrumental in implementing the growing vision of living out our faith within our neighbourhoods.

Jon is invested in local mission currently serving as the Vice-Chair of the board of directors for the Christie Refugee Welcome Centre.  Jon is also an active member of his community volunteering as a member of the Seaton Village Residents Association, playing on his local neighbourhood hockey league and can often be found exploring different parts of the city by bike.

Jon has over 25 years of pastoral ministry experience including youth ministry, social justice and outreach, and being the founding pastor of West Edge Community Church in Mississauga.  Jon also has worked in international development & micro-finance with Opportunity International Canada.

Jon has a Bachelor of Theology and is currently a part-time student in the Masters of Theological Studies program at Wycliffe College, University of Toronto.

In 2016, Jon Osmond was appointed the Senior Pastor at FreeChurch and alongside our Elders continues to foster FreeChurch’s vision of seeing prodigals come home and Christ followers formed in a community empowered for the flourishing of our city.

Steve MacDouell

Associate Pastor

With over twelve years of vocational church experience, Steve was delighted to join the FreeChurch community in September 2022 as an Associate Pastor.

Steve has a Bachelor of History (Western University) and a Masters of Theological Studies (University of Toronto). To conclude his masters, he got the opportunity to write about what writer and urbanist, Jane Jacobs, has to teach the church about faithful presence in the neighbourhood.

He’s the co-founder of Good City Co., a civic organization that helps citizens take a greater ownership over the places they call home. When time allows for it, Steve writes on the intersection of community, place, and praxis for Strong Towns.

When Steve's not collaborating with the FreeChurch team, you can find him teaching history courses at Fanshawe College, working on place-based projects with his neighbours, cheering hard for the Jays and Raptors, and wandering west end parks with Brittney, his wife, and their three kids.

The Elders Team act as the stewards of the vision for FreeChurch Toronto, steering our community in obedience to God's plan for our church.  With Christ as our foundation, we have been blessed with new building blocks including a new Constitution, refreshed Mission, Vision and Values, and a Leadership Advisory Council that reflects our new highly consultative leadership model.  We are invigorated for the future as we seek to journey together and live out our faith in fresh, creative ways in our city.

Our church is not about polished Sundays or perfect people.  We hope that you will find an authentic and welcoming community at FreeChurch, no matter what your story is.  We hope that coming here will feel like coming home and finding your spiritual family in the city.  Together, we are empowered by Christ to use our creativity and gifts to seek the shalom and peace of our city.  As elders, we long to see the all-encompassing flourishing of our great city, with its distinct neighbourhoods and people.  We long to see a growing and diverse inter-generational community of authentic people that ask real questions, embrace the beauty and brokenness of everyday life in the city, and seek to encounter a real God in the spaces in between.
